Worshiping during a pandemic
During 2020 our time together as a worshiping community moved from in person gatherings to a mix of virtual and recorded worship, with occasional opportunities to gather in person. We record the "Ante-Communion" (that is, the liturgy of the word) and post it to YouTube every Sunday afternoon. We also have relied heavily on Zoom. Now that we are a year out from the first restrictions on in-person woship, and it is spring, we are celebraing Holy Eucharist on the lawn at 10:00. On rainy mornings, we can accommodate up to 26 people in the sanctuary. We are still recording and posting the Ante-Communion, and we are still using Zoom at 10:00 am. Join us either in person or virtually! We are all learning to do new things.
Preparing for Sunday - the Lessons
Click the "Preparing for Sunday Button" in the left-hand column on our Home page to read the Scriptures and brief reflections for last week, this week, and next week.
A lectionary is a set of readings assigned for each Sunday of the church year. The RCL is used by many denominations of Chrstians throughout the world, which means that you will hear the same lessons regardless of which church you attend in the Episcopal, Anglican, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Reformed and Orthodox traditions.
The lectionary is designed so that a lesson from the Old Testament and New Testament, including the Psalms and the Gospels, are read each week. Over the course of three years, we hear much of the Bible read during our Sunday services. Our readings from Scripture generally follow the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) as adopted by General Convention of the Episcopal Church in 2006, using the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.
Preparing for Sunday - the Order of Service
Our worship follows the Book of Common Prayer and supplemental materials authorized by the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, such as Enriching our Worship, the Book of Occasional Services, and additional authorized hymnals.
